The summit of graphic arts – Crysis 3

I know… I am late. Crysis 3 was already announced by EA and COD Black Ops 2 steals him often the show. But, therefore, the graphics are awesome. Awesome tessellation, great lighting, crazy SSS and many more. And, of course, every time real-time. Let’s get started with Crysis 3!

You have no idea what Crysis 3 is? Shame on you! But look here:

Great video, right? A really great idea to combine the atmosphere of Crysis 1 and Crysis 2. I also like the story of Prophet’s “revenge”. It would be nice if my Pear3DEngine would look like this.

So let us begin with the very short analysis:

To be a good game, there must be a good story. Only multiplayer would be boring, right?

The story is about aliens. Whoa. My book is about aliens too. So nothing new. But Crytek tells us more:

Set in 2047, Prophet is on a revenge mission after uncovering the truth behind Cell Corporation’s motives for building the quarantined Nanodomes. The citizens were told that the giant citywide structures were resurrected to protect the population and to cleanse these metropolises of the remnants of Ceph forces. In reality, the Nanodomes are CELL’s covert attempt at a land and technology grab in their quest for global domination. With Alien Ceph lurking around every corner and human enemies on the attack, nobody is safe in the path of vengeance. Everyone is a target in Prophet’s quest for retribution.

Hmm cool. Revenge? Hunt? Blood? I am very excited to see how they tell the story of CELL and the aliens (Ceph). Also, there will be new aliens. Just as when changing from 1 to 2. But what happened to the “cold” Aliens? Why do the aliens have such beautiful drills? What is about the new weapon? Questions, questions, questions… Yeah, I am very excited.

This time the focus will be on Prophet. After our colleague from Crysis 2 gave him the suit “voluntarily” back. I would never give it back! So the story has many holes. This is the reason why I am looking forward. What will be probably happening in Crysis 3, 4, 5…?

Crytek and the Crysis series are known for their great graphics. “Crysis is more a benchmark with a story”, most people say. And I say it too.  Have you ever compared Crysis 1 or 2 with the Heaven benchmark? Hardly any difference, right? Except that Crysis forces your GPU more quickly to its knees, of course.  But why? (Of course there are big differences between the Unity Engine and the CryEngine. On my mind, the graphic of the CryEngine is better. )

That will tell you these videos: (I’m too lazy to write, I know)

The engine is one of the best. Maybe the best? To list all the features would be beyond this page. More information can be found at Crytek or in the archives of GDC, SIGGRAPH, etc.

This time it will probably not contain any groundbreaking new graphic features, as in Crysis 2 and especially 1. Too bad. But for that, and they have promised it, more focus will be put on the story. I like that. It would be a very bad idea to develop a new engine again. You should give the CryEngine 3 the time to flourish. Then Crysis 4 will come with a bomb.

More?! Should this entry not tell everything about Crysis 3?! Far from it. Crysis 3 is still too young to tell confirmed things about him. Look forward to get new information every day. Google is your friend. But be sure Crysis 3 will be “fucking” awesome!

PS: The Pear3DEngine will become his new and personally Homepage soon! Follow me on Twitter and somewhere else to look forward and to be happy!
